Checking and replacing the rotor and distributor cap (Chevrolet Tahoe 1)

1. It is recommended to replace the rotor and distributor cap at the same time as replacing the spark plugs.

2. Loosen the distributor cap mounting screws.

3. On some models, the distributor cap is secured with spring clips that resemble screws. To release the clips, press them with a screwdriver blade and turn them 1/2 turn. Remove the cover along with the wires.

4. Check the condition of the distributor roller runner. Make sure there are no cracks, traces of surface breakdown, wear, burning or corrosion (see photo). If these defects are detected, or if the spring contact becomes loose, replace the runner.

5. To replace the runner, remove it from the roller and install a new one. On some models, the runner is simply installed on the roller by pressing.

6. The runner is installed on the roller in only one position. The tooth on the runner must be opposite the groove of the roller (or vice versa). If the runner is fastened with screws, then its lower part should have square and rounded teeth that should fit into the corresponding sockets.

7. Wipe the lid clean and check the inside and outside of the lid for cracks or traces of surface damage (thin charred tracks), wear, burning and weakening of contacts (see photo).

8. After completing the check, put the distributor cap back in place in the reverse order.
