Heater radiator — removal and installation (Chevrolet Tahoe 1)

Front heater



Models 1987-1994.



1. Disconnect the battery from ground.

2. Remove the coolant reservoir.

3. Disconnect the cooling system hoses from the heater radiator (see photo), lift them up and secure them.

4. Loosen the screws/nuts securing the heater housing in the engine compartment.

5. Remove the trim and glove box door.

6. Mark and disconnect the cables or rods from the heater.

7. Remove the computer (ECM unit) and its mounting bracket.

8. On some vehicles, disconnect the antenna cable from the mast.

9. Remove the right side panel, remove the lower right corner of the instrument panel from the fasteners. Move the heater back and disconnect the wiring harness.

10. Loosen the screws/nuts securing the heater to the body (see photo).

11. Remove the heater housing from the vehicle.



12. Unscrew the bolt, bend the brackets and remove the radiator (see photo).

13. Installation is carried out in reverse order.

Models since 1995.



14. Disconnect the battery from ground.

15. Drain the coolant.

16. Disconnect the connectors from the heater fan motor.

17. Remove the middle air duct from under the instrument panel.

18. Remove the right lower side panel.

19. Remove the fan cover.

20. Remove the electric motor with the impeller.

21. Disconnect the steering column, tilt the column slightly.

22. Loosen the instrument panel mounting bolts, turn and move the instrument panel upward.

23. Remove the coolant reservoir in the engine compartment.

24. Disconnect the heater hoses in the engine compartment.

25. Holding the heater housing, unscrew the housing mounting screw under the engine compartment niche, next to the evaporator tube.

26. Unscrew the 4 screws and 2 nuts securing the housing to the wall of the engine compartment niche.

27. Remove the interior heater housing from under the instrument panel,

28. Unscrew the 7 screws securing the cover to the body and remove the cover.

29. Remove the heater radiator.



30. Installation is carried out in reverse order.

Rear auxiliary heater (suburban models)



Attention! 1. If the car is equipped with an additional air conditioning system, it should be depressurized at a car service center.


2. The evaporator of the additional air conditioner is installed in the housing of the rear heater, together with the radiator and fan.


31. Disconnect the battery from ground.

32. Remove the decorative trim from the right rear cabin trim.

33. Remove the right rear wheel opening trim.

34. Working under the right rear of the vehicle, disconnect the coolant hoses from the heater core and plug them. Drain the coolant from the heater core into a tray.

35. Disconnect the wiring from the fan.

36. Remove the drain valve.

37. Unscrew the mounting bolts and nuts and remove the housings together with the radiator.

38. Remove the brackets, unscrew the nuts and remove the housing from the heater radiator.

39. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
