Removal
The engine oil cooler is either an integral part of the radiator or a separate unit installed in front of the radiator.
1. Disconnect the cooler tube quick connectors.
2. On the L76 (6.0L) engine and if equipped, perform the following operations:
- open the oil cooler hose retaining clip located on the bottom of the fan diffuser;
- remove the oil cooler hoses from the clips.
3. Raise the vehicle and place safety posts under the frame.
4. On the LY6 (6.0L) engine, release the oil cooler hoses from the support clips.
Caution: When installing, make sure that the oil cooler hose (tube) being installed has a quick-connect plastic cap on the end. If the plastic cap is missing or damaged, install a new cap. Install the cap before installing the hose (tube).
5. Place the jack under the rear of the vehicle.
6. If installed, remove the engine guard.
7. If equipped, remove the front differential housing shield.
8. On 1500 and 2500 series vehicles, temporarily support (jack) the front differential housing.
9. On 1500 series vehicles, loosen the nuts securing the right side of the differential housing.
10. Loosen the bolts securing the left side of the differential housing. Tightening torque 100 Nm.
11. Lower the differential.
12. On 2500 series vehicles, loosen the nuts securing the right side of the differential housing. Tightening torque 100 Nm.
13. Remove the differential housing upper support bolt and nut.
14. Remove the differential housing lower support bolt and nut.
Note: When installing, first tighten the support bolts and nuts by hand, tighten the side fasteners, then tighten the support fasteners.
15. On the L76 (6.0L) engine, do the following:
- a) lower the differential.
- b) Unscrew the bolts (2) securing the oil cooler hose adapter. Tightening torque 12 Nm.
- c) Remove the hose assembly and gasket. Discard the gasket.
- d) Check the condition of fittings, connectors and hoses. Look for signs of damage or deformation.
16. On the LY6 (6.0L) engine, do the following:
- a) Loosen the bolt (1) of the oil cooler hose bracket, see figure for item 15. Tightening torque 25 Nm.
- b) Perform operations according to paragraphs 156, 15c and 15d.
Installation
17. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
