You can change the ground clearance of your car by tuning the chassis: by installing spacers under the springs or replacing the standard springs with other increased ones (reduced) height, and installing wheels of a larger (smaller) diameter. But keep in mind that this changes the geometry of the suspension. At the manufacturer's plant, its parameters for a specific car model are selected based on multiple experiments and tests. Therefore, be prepared for the fact that after tuning the car's performance may worsen.
Warning. Remember, any independent attempts to make changes to the suspension design may result in a ban on the operation of the vehicle.
When the ground clearance is reduced, the vehicle's center of gravity is lowered. At the same time, handling and aerodynamics are improved. This is good for passenger cars designed for dynamic driving and capable of reaching high speeds. On the other hand, high ground clearance is necessary to improve cross-country ability when driving on rough terrain. And in modern cities there are many speed bumps and other road surprises, upon encountering which you involuntarily envy the owners of SUVs with high ground clearance.
However, when increasing ground clearance on your own, you shouldn't get carried away. At the same time, the center of gravity rises upward. As a result, without ever becoming an all-terrain vehicle, the car loses stability and control.
After tuning a car in which the ground clearance was changed, it is necessary to adjust the wheel alignment angles.
A good compromise is cars that have air suspension with the ability to change the ground clearance. With such a suspension, the driver feels confident both on the highway and on the country road.
