Removal
1. Loosen the rear wheel nuts, raise the rear of the vehicle and place vertical supports under the frame rails. To prevent the vehicle from rolling, place chocks under the front wheels. Remove the rear wheels.
2. Support the rear axle housing by placing a floor jack under the differential. Raise the jack slightly.
3. Disconnect the lower ends of the shock absorbers from the axle housing (see subsection 11).
4. Slowly lower the jack until the springs are completely released, then remove the springs and insulators.
Caution: Do not allow the upper control arms to come into contact with frame members as this may damage the arms.
5. Inspect the insulators. If they have cracks, hardened areas or other damage, replace them.
Installation
6. Place the springs and insulators in their original locations on the rear axle and lift it up so that the spring ends are properly positioned in the upper pockets (this will require the help of an assistant).
7. Continue raising the axle until the shock absorbers can be connected to it. Install the bolts and nuts and tighten them to the specified torques.
8. Install the wheels and secure them with nuts. Lower the vehicle and tighten the wheel nuts to the torque specified in specifications of chapter 1.
