Removal
1. Loosen the rear wheel nuts, lift the rear of the vehicle and install vertical supports under the frame side members. To prevent the vehicle from rolling, place chocks under the front wheels. Remove the rear wheels.
2. Support the rear axle housing by placing a floor jack under the differential. Raise the jack slightly.
3. Disconnect the lower ends of the shock absorbers from the axle housing (see subsection 11).
4. Slowly lower the jack until the springs are fully released, then remove the springs and insulators.
Caution: Do not allow the upper suspension arms to come into contact with frame components, as this may damage the arms.
5. Inspect the insulators. If they are cracked, hardened or otherwise damaged, replace them.
Installation
6. Place the springs and isolators in their original locations on the rear axle and raise it so that the ends of the springs are correctly located in the upper seats (this will require the help of an assistant).
7. Continue raising the axle until it is possible to connect the shock absorbers to it. Install the bolts and nuts and tighten them to the required torque.
8. Install the wheels and secure them with nuts. Lower the vehicle and tighten the wheel nuts to the torque specified in Chapter 1 specifications.
