Adjusting the automatic transmission range switch (Chevrolet Captiva 1)

J-45404 Gearbox Alignment Tool with Indicator

Adjustment procedure



1. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery.

2. For HFV6 3.2L or 2.0S Diesel, remove the ECM bracket.

3. Move the shift control lever to neutral position (N).

4. Remove the shift control cable from the automatic transmission range selector lever.

4. Remove the shift control cable from the automatic transmission range selector lever.


5. Loosen the automatic transmission range switch bolts.

6. Install J-45404 onto the manual shift shaft and rotate the transmission range switch until the neutral reference line on the switch aligns with the pointer line on J-45404.

7. Tighten the automatic transmission range selector bolts.

Tighten the automatic transmission range selector bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft·lbs).



8. Remove J-45404 from the manual shift shaft.

9. Install the shift control cable onto the automatic transmission range selector lever and adjust the cable. See "Shift mechanism drive cable" in this section.

10. For HFV6 3.2L or 2.0S Diesel, install the ECM bracket.

11. Connect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery.

12. After adjusting the transmission range switch, make sure that the engine starts only in the PARK (P) or NEUTRAL (N) position. If the engine starts in any other position, readjust the switch.
