Removal procedure
1. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Remove the floor console. See Section 9G, Interior Trim.
3. Apply the parking brake.
4. Move the gear shift lever to position N (NEUTRAL).

5. Remove the shift control cable retaining clamp (1) and the cable (2) from the shift control lever assembly.

Important: The shift control cable must be disconnected from the transmission range selector lever before it is disconnected from the control cable bracket. Otherwise, damage to the manual shift shaft may occur, requiring disassembly of the transmission assembly.
6. Disconnect the shift mechanism drive cable from the range selector lever.
7. Disconnect the shift mechanism drive cable from the control cable bracket by pressing the tabs of the control cable retaining clamp and pulling it upward. Discard the clamp.

8. Remove the shift control cable from the front panel.
9. Remove the drive cable from the vehicle.

Installation procedure
1. Route the shift control cable through the cable bracket.
2. Secure the cable to the bracket with a new control cable clamp. A click will be heard when properly installed.
3. With the shift lever in neutral (N), install the shift control cable end connection onto the ball-end stud on the shift lever. A click will be heard when the cable is installed correctly.

4. Secure the shift control cable grommet by pressing the cable into the through hole in the front panel.

5. Make sure the gear shift lever is in neutral (N).
6. Connect the shift control cable to the gearshift lever. Secure the cable with a new shift control cable retaining clamp (1).
7. Install the shift control cable onto the gear shift lever.
8. Adjust the shift control cable. See "Adjusting the shift control cable" in this section.

9. Install the front console. See Section 9G, Interior Trim.
10. Connect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery.
