5. Remove the gearbox fluid level indicator.

6. Wipe all traces of transmission fluid from the indicator.

7. Insert the pointer into the gearbox with the final drive assembly until it is fully seated.

Important: Checking the transmission fluid level at abnormal temperatures may give an incorrect measurement value. Transmission fluid expands when heated.

8. Remove the indicator and check the level and condition of the fluid on the indicator:
  • Transmission fluid level at normal operating temperature (1).
  • Gearbox fluid level if cold (2).

Gearbox fluid level if cold (2).

9. If the fluid level is incorrect, check for the following conditions:
  • Fluid is below level, check for leaks and add fluid through the fluid level indicator location
  • Fluid level is above the level, the gearbox with the main gear assembly is overfilled

It is necessary to drain some of the liquid through the drain plug. Check the liquid level.

Important: When topping up fluid or completely changing the fluid, always use ESSO JWS 3309 US ATF.
