1. Insufficient or excessive fluid level in an automatic transmission leads to the failure of this unit.
2. After a long trip, or a trip with a heavy load (towing a trailer, driving at high speeds, or in hot weather) wait at least 30 minutes.
3. Park the vehicle on a level surface, apply the handbrake, start the engine and depress the brake pedal. Move the selector lever from the Park position through the entire range and return to the Park position again.
4. The transmission fluid dipstick is located at the rear of the engine compartment, on the passenger side. Remove the dipstick from the tube (engine continues to idle), wipe the dipstick.
5. Reinsert the dipstick into the nozzle.
6. Remove the dipstick and check the fluid level (see photo). The level must be in the range indicated by HOT FULL. On a cold transmission, the level should be in the COLD FULL range. If it is necessary to add fluid, then carefully pour the required amount of fluid of the appropriate brand through the dipstick nozzle. Add liquid through the funnel in small portions (the amount of fluid between the two HOT marks is approximately 0.57 l).
7. If the liquid is black, or has «burnt» smell, then the fluid must be replaced (see below).
