General information about brakes (Chevrolet Tahoe 1)

Contents: Master cylinder ↧ Hydrovacuum booster ↧ Anti-lock braking system (ABS) ↧ Parking brake ↧
The cars are equipped with hydraulic brakes with hydrovacuum braking boost. All the cars under consideration have disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. The gaps between the brake pads and the disc of the front brakes are adjusted automatically. The brake pads of the rear brakes are adjusted when the parking brake is engaged. The brake hydraulic drive is dual-circuit (separate for front and rear wheels). In case of failure of one of the circuits, the second circuit will provide braking. At the same time, the indicator on the instrument panel starts to light up, warning about the drop in the fluid level in the brake hydraulic drive and the failure of the brakes.

Master cylinder

The master cylinder is mounted in the engine compartment on the brake booster, with a large fluid reservoir located above the master cylinder. The master cylinder has separate primary and secondary chambers for the front and rear hydraulic circuits.

Hydrovacuum booster

The hydraulic brake booster provides increased force on the brake pedal. The hydraulic brake booster uses the vacuum in the intake manifold or the pressure from the power steering pump. The unit is mounted on the bulkhead of the engine compartment, directly behind the master cylinder.

Anti-lock braking system (ABS)

The vehicles in question use an anti-lock braking system (ABS), which acts either on the rear brakes or on both the front and rear brakes. The system is designed to improve the vehicle's stability under heavy braking.

Parking brake

It has a cable drive to the rear wheels and is activated by a pedal.
