Disabling and connecting the passive safety system (Chevrolet Tahoe 2)

Before turning off



1. Set the wheels in the direction of straight-ahead movement.

2. Turn off the ignition.

3. Remove the key from the ignition switch.

4. Remove the "AIR BAG" fuse.

Disconnection



Models before 2003.



1. To disable the driver's airbag, do the following:

a) Disconnect the connector holder (1) from the yellow connector (2) located on the steering column.

a) Disconnect the connector holder (1) from the yellow connector (2) located on the steering column.


b) Disconnect the yellow driver airbag connector.

2. To deactivate the front passenger airbag, do the following:

a) To access the front passenger airbag connector, open the glove compartment completely.

b) Disconnect the connector holder (1) from the yellow airbag connector (2) located on the instrument panel reinforcement.

c) Disconnect the yellow connector of the front passenger airbag.

c) Disconnect the yellow connector of the front passenger airbag.


3. To deactivate the driver and front passenger side airbags, do the following:



a) Disconnect the connector holder (1) from the yellow connector (2) of the side airbag located under the seat.

a) Disconnect the connector holder (1) from the yellow connector (2) of the side airbag located…


b) Disconnect the yellow connector of the driver or front passenger side airbag.

Models from 2003.



1. Disconnect "zone 1" (front sensors).

a) Jack up the car and secure its position.

b) Disconnect the front impact sensor connector holders.

b) Disconnect the front impact sensor connector holders.


c) Disconnect the connectors from the front impact sensors.

2. Disconnect "zone 2" (left side sensor).

a) Remove the front door trim panel (see chapter "Body").

b) Disconnect the connector holder (3) from the yellow connector (5) of the side impact sensor.

c) Disconnect the yellow connector (5) from the side impact sensor.

c) Disconnect the yellow connector (5) from the side impact sensor.


3. Disconnect "zone 3" (driver airbag)



a) Disconnect the connector holder (1) from the yellow connector (2) of the driver's airbag located on the left side of the steering column.

a) Disconnect the connector holder (1) from the yellow connector (2) of the driver's airbag located…


b) Disconnect the connector (2).

4. Disconnect "zone 5" (front passenger airbag).

a) Disconnect the connector holder (1) from the yellow connector (2) of the front passenger airbag located under the instrument panel.

a) Disconnect the connector holder (1) from the yellow connector (2) of the front passenger airbag…


b) Disconnect the front passenger airbag connector.

5. Disconnect "zone 6" (right side sensor).

Note: performed in the same way as in "zone 2" (see item 2).


6. Disconnect "zone 7" (front and side airbags for driver and front passenger).

a) Disconnect the driver's airbag (see item 3).

b) Disconnect the front passenger airbag (see item 4).

c) Disconnect the connector holder (1) from the yellow connector (2) of the side airbag located under the seat.



c) Disconnect the connector holder (1) from the yellow connector (2) of the side airbag located…


d) Disconnect the yellow connector of the driver or front passenger side airbag.

7. Disconnect "zone 9" (front passenger side airbag).

Note: Disabling is described in paragraph 6c.


Connection



1. Connecting the passive safety system is done in reverse order.

2. Install the "AIR BAG" fuse.

3. Turn on the ignition, but do not start the engine. Check that the airbag/pretensioner system (SRS) indicator in the instrument cluster comes on for 7 seconds and goes out.

4. If the indicator does not light, remains on, or lights up while driving, perform system diagnostics (see chapter "Diagnostic Trouble Codes").
