Steering shock absorber (Chevrolet Tahoe 2)

Removal



1. Raise the vehicle and place safety posts under the frame.

2. If the engine protection is installed, remove the protection.

3. Loosen the nut (1) of the ball joint (2) of the steering shock absorber.

3. Loosen the nut (1) of the ball joint (2) of the steering shock absorber.


Caution: Do not reinstall the ball joint nut.


4. Using a puller, separate the shock absorber ball joint from the tie rod (3).

5. Unscrew the bolt (5) and nut (6) of the shock absorber support.

Caution: Do not reinstall the support nut.


Caution: Do not reinstall the support nut.


5. Remove the shock absorber (4).

6. Check the condition of the shock absorber (leaks, damage).

Installation



1. Install the shock absorber (4) on the support and the transverse steering rod.

2. Install the bolt (5) and new nut (6).



3. Insert the shock absorber ball joint stud (2) into the tie rod (3).

4. Tighten the old nut (1) until the ball joint fits into the transverse tie rod. Tightening torque 54 Nm.

5. Unscrew the old ball joint nut.

6. Install and tighten the new ball joint nut. Tightening torque 40 N·m.

7. Install the engine protection.

8. Lower the vehicle.
