Warning: Please read the notes and warnings in the chapter "Passive safety system".


Note: Before disconnecting the steering shaft from the steering gear, set the front wheels to the straight-ahead position and turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position to avoid damage to the SRS current collector.


1. Set the front wheels to the straight-ahead position.

2. Secure the steering shaft with a pin installed through the access hole in the lower steering column cover.

3. Apply relative position marks:
  • between the bolt and the clamp at both ends of the upper intermediate shaft;
  • between the upper and lower intermediate shaft.

4. Loosen the clamping bolt securing the lower intermediate shaft to the upper shaft. Tightening torque 47 N·m.

5. Loosen the bolt and nut (1) securing the upper intermediate shaft to the steering column. Tightening torque 62 Nm.

6. Slide the upper shaft down the lower shaft until it comes off the steering column shaft.

7. Remove the accelerator pedal position sensor.

8. Pull the upper shaft towards the front panel until the shaft comes off the lower intermediate shaft, remove the upper shaft from the vehicle.

9. Installation in reverse order.
