Airbag Current Collector (Chevrolet Tahoe 2)

Note: The driver's airbag current collector must be placed in the central position during installation. Incorrect installation of the current collector may result in damage to the part and impair the operation of the passive safety system.


Caution: If the steering column wire harness is secured with a double strap, the strap holder must be replaced during installation.


1. Before setting the central position of the current collector:
  • set the front wheels to the straight ahead position;
  • lock the wide spline (1) of the steering shaft in the 12 o'clock position.
  • turn the ignition key to the LOCK position.

2. If there is a centering window (4) in the front part of the current collector (5) and a service lock (1) is installed on the back side (2), perform the following steps:
  • a) Hold the current collector with the front side facing up.
  • b) Press the service lock and rotate the current collector hub clockwise until it stops.
  • c) Slowly rotate the hub in the opposite direction until a yellow field with two arrows (3) appears in the centering window.
  • d) Release the service lock. The current collector is now in the central position.
  • d) Install the current collector on the steering shaft.

d) Install the current collector on the steering shaft.


3. If there is a centering window (3) in the front part of the current collector (4), and there is no service lock on the back side (1), perform the following steps:


  • a) Hold the current collector with the front side facing up.
  • b) Rotate the current collector hub clockwise until it stops.
  • c) Slowly rotate the hub in the opposite direction until a yellow field with two arrows (2) appears in the centering window. The current collector is now in the center position.
  • d) Keeping the current collector in the central position, install it on the steering shaft.

d) Keeping the current collector in the central position, install it on the steering shaft.


4. If there is no centering window in the front part of the current collector (3), and a service lock (1) is installed on the back side (2), perform the following steps:
  • a) Hold the current collector face down.
  • b) Press the service lock and rotate the current collector hub in the direction of the arrow (4) until it stops.
  • c) While holding the service lock, slowly turn the hub in the opposite direction 2.5 turns.
  • d) Release the service lock. The current collector is now in the central position.
  • d) Install the current collector on the steering shaft.

d) Install the current collector on the steering shaft.


5. If the current collector (2) has neither a centering window nor a service lock, perform the following steps:


  • a) Hold the current collector face down.
  • b) Rotate the current collector hub in the direction of the arrow (3) until it stops.
  • c) Slowly turn the hub in the opposite direction by 2.5 turns. Now the current collector is in the central position.
  • d) Keeping the current collector in the central position, install it on the steering shaft.

d) Keeping the current collector in the central position, install it on the steering shaft.
