Steering rack boot (Chevrolet Tahoe 2)

Removal

1. Remove the outer tie rod.

2. Unscrew the nut (2) securing the inner steering rod (1).



3. Remove the clamp (2) securing the steering rack boot (1).



4. Cut off the clamp (1) securing the boot (2) to the steering rack.



5. Remove the dust cover.

Installation

1. Install a new steering rack clamp onto the boot.



2. Before installing the boot on the steering rack, lubricate the boot mounting surfaces on the inner rod and steering rack with consistent grease.

3. Install the boot on the inner tie rod.

4. Install the boot on the steering rack along the mounting groove in the rack.

Attention: when installing, do not deform or twist the boot, eliminate any distortion of shape manually.

5. Tighten the clamp securing the boot to the steering rack using special pliers.

6. Install and tighten the boot clamp on the steering rod.

7. Install the inner tie rod mounting nut.

8. Install the outer tie rod.
