NOTE: The right and left tie rod covers are removed and installed in the same way.
1. Raise and support the front of the vehicle on the side where the cover is to be replaced. Remove the wheel.
WARNING: Brake the car with the parking brake and install the anti-rollback stops ("shoes") under the rear wheels,
2. Remove the tie rod end (see "Replacing the outer tie rod end").

3. Unscrew the lock nut from the rod end.
NOTE: For clarity, this and subsequent operations are shown with the steering gear removed.

4. Loosen the outer clamp of the traction boot by squeezing its bent ears and remove the clamp from the boot.

5. Loosen the lock of the inner clamp of the traction boot with side cutters...

6. ...and remove the boot from the steering gear housing by sliding the boot along the rod.

7. Carefully inspect the protective cover. If you find any tears, cuts or small cracks on its surface or in the folds of the corrugated part, the cover must be replaced.
8. Install the protective cover in the reverse order of removal.
9. Before installing the protective cover, be sure to apply new grease to the working surface of the steering rod ball joint.
10. Install new protective cover mounting clamps.
11. In order to maintain the wheel alignment as much as possible, during assembly, screw the steering tip onto the steering rod, making as many turns as were counted when unscrewing (see "Replacing the outer tie rod end").
12. Check and, if necessary, adjust the front wheel alignment angles at a service station with special equipment.
