Bleeding the power steering system (Chevrolet Aveo T300)

            0

Pumping (air removal) hydraulic power steering system is required after any work involving depressurization of the system (replacement of pump or pipelines). A sign of air in the system is the steering wheel jamming when you try to turn it sharply. In addition, the pump makes increased noise when you turn the steering wheel, and the liquid in the tank usually foams.

1. Brake the vehicle with the parking brake and install the anti-rollback stops (shoes) under the rear wheels.

2. Raise the front of the car and place it on reliable supports so that the front wheels do not touch the ground. If you have a lift, you can raise the entire car.

2. Raise the front of the car and place it on reliable supports so that the front wheels do not…

3. Fill the power steering system with working fluid up to the "MAX" mark (see "Checking the level and adding working fluid to the power steering reservoir").

4. Without starting the engine, turn the steering wheel five or six times left and right until it stops.

5. Start the engine and turn the steering wheel all the way to one side. Do not increase the engine speed above idle.

WARNING: Do not hold the steering wheel at full lock for more than five seconds.

6. Turn the steering wheel all the way in the opposite direction.

7. Return the steering wheel to the center position and turn off the engine.

8. Check the level of working fluid in the power steering reservoir and top up the fluid if necessary.

NOTE: The level of the working fluid in the tank when the engine is warm should not be above the "MAX" mark, and when the engine is cold, not below the "MIN" mark.

9. Repeat steps 4-7 until the fluid level in the reservoir stops dropping when the steering wheel is turned and air bubbles stop appearing in the fluid.

10. Add the required amount of working fluid. Do not pour the fluid above the "MAX" mark.

11. Lower the front wheels to the ground. Start the engine and make several full turns of the steering wheel from one extreme position to the other. Make sure that the difference in fluid levels in the reservoir when turning the steering wheel left and right is insignificant. Make sure that the difference between the working fluid level with the engine running and the level after the engine is stopped is within 5 mm. If the difference in levels reaches 5 mm or more, then the air has not been completely removed from the system, so you should repeat the bleeding.

12. Replace the reservoir cap and wipe away any fluid leaks.
