Warning: Please read the notes and warnings in the chapter "Passive safety system".


Note: Before disconnecting the steering shaft from the steering gear, set the front wheels to the straight-ahead position and turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position to avoid damage to the SRS current collector.


1. Set the front wheels to the straight-ahead position.

2. Secure the steering shaft with a pin installed through the access hole in the lower steering column cover.

3. Apply relative position marks:
  • between the upper and lower intermediate shaft;
  • between the lower intermediate shaft joint and the steering gear input shaft.

4. Loosen the clamping bolt securing the lower intermediate shaft to the upper shaft. Tightening torque 47 N·m.

5. Loosen the clamping bolt securing the lower intermediate shaft joint to the steering gear/steering rack. Tightening torque 47 N·m.

6. Lift the lower shaft along the upper shaft until the shaft joint comes off the steering gear.

7. Remove the lower intermediate shaft.

Installation



8. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
