Inspect the capsules on the steering column brackets. All capsules should be securely placed in the bracket slots and should not move when attempting to remove the capsule by hand. Otherwise, the bracket must be replaced if it is bolted to the column tube. If the bracket is welded to the tube, replace the column tube assembly.

Check the degree of deformation of the column pipe by measuring the distances shown in the figures. Replace the column if this dimension is outside the permissible limits.

Remove the current collector of the passive safety system from the steering column. Visually inspect the steering shaft for integrity of the plastic inserts (1). If the inserts are cut off, replace the steering shaft.

In case of any damage to the frame, check the runout of the steering shaft. Install the indicator leg on the lower journal of the steering shaft, rotate the steering wheel. The runout should not be more than 1.60 mm.
