Removal
Caution: Read the warnings in the chapter "Passive safety system".
1. Disable the passive safety system (airbags).
2. Remove the knee support.
Note: Before disconnecting the steering column or intermediate shaft, set the front wheels of the vehicle to the straight-ahead position and lock the steering column (ignition switch LOCK position). Failure to follow this instruction will result in incorrect orientation of individual components and damage to the current collector of the passive safety system.
3. Lock the steering column with a special lock through the access hole in the lower steering column cover.

4. Remove the on-board electrical equipment control unit bracket. Do not disconnect the unit wiring connector.
5. Disconnect the gear shift cable (1) from the column.

6. Disconnect the steering column wiring connectors.

7. Remove the wire harness holder (4) from the front panel.

Note: After installing the steering column, be sure to secure the wire bundles with standard clips to avoid damaging the wiring.
8. Loosen the tie bolt (1) of the upper intermediate shaft and remove the shaft.

9. Loosen the nuts (1) of the knee support deflector. Tightening torque 9 Nm.

10. Unscrew the nuts securing the upper and lower supports of the steering column pipe. Tightening torque 30 N·m.

11. Remove the steering column from the vehicle.
Note: The steering column is extremely susceptible to damage when removed from the vehicle. Dropping the column on its end will cause deformation of the steering shaft or weakening of the plastic inserts that provide the column with the necessary rigidity. Installing the column in an inclined position can cause deformation of the column tube. Any of the above damage will result in the column losing its collapsible properties in a collision.
Installation
