Camshaft — Removal and Installation (Chevrolet Tahoe 2)

Removal



Caution: When replacing the camshaft, replace the valve lifters at the same time.


1. Remove the radiator support.

2. Remove the valve lifters.

3. Remove the front engine cover.

4. Remove the timing chain. On early model engines, unscrew the camshaft position sensor mounting bolt and remove the sensor. Tightening torque 25 Nm.

5. Unscrew the bolts (204) securing the axial retainer (203) of the camshaft.

Tightening torque: bolt with a normal head 25 Nm; bolt with head Torx 15 Nm.

Note: All camshaft journals are the same size. Be careful not to damage the bearing surface when removing and installing the shaft.




6. Screw the technological bolt(s) into the camshaft nose.

7. Using the bolt(s) as a handle, rotate and pull the camshaft out of the block.

Installation



8. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Before installing the camshaft, lubricate the journals of the shaft with engine oil.
