Removal



1. Raise the vehicle.

2. Remove the rear wheel.

3. Unscrew the bolts securing the axle shaft to the hub.

3. Unscrew the bolts securing the axle shaft to the hub.


4. Lightly tap the axle shaft with a soft metal hammer to loosen the fit of the axle shaft.

5. Grasp the rib on the axle flange with pliers. Twist the axle flange until the axle starts to move.

6. Remove the axle shaft from the axle beam.

7. Remove the gasket.

8. Clean the mating surfaces of the axle shaft flange and wheel hub.

Installation



1. Install a new gasket onto the axle flange.

2. Install the axle shaft into the axle beam:
  • a) Align the splines of the axle shaft and the differential side gear.
  • b) Align the holes of the axle shaft flange, gasket and hub.

3. Install and tighten the axle shaft mounting bolts. Tightening torque 156 N·m.

4. Install the wheel.

5. Check the oil level in the gearbox housing, add oil if necessary.

6. Lower the vehicle.
