Removal
1. Raise the vehicle.
2. Remove the rear wheel.
3. Remove the brake caliper.
4. Remove the gearbox housing cover and cover gasket.
5. Loosen the differential drive gear axle fixing bolt.

6. On models without a locking differential, remove the pinion shaft.

7. On models with a locking differential, partially extend the pinion shaft from the differential cup. Rotate the differential cup until the pinion shaft stops in the gear housing.

8. On models with a locking differential, use a screwdriver to rotate the locking ring (1) until it aligns with the thrust block (2).

9. Push the axle shaft flange (1) towards the differential until the retaining ring comes out of the thrust block.

10. Remove the retaining rings (4) from the end of the axle shaft (1).
11. Remove the axle shaft (1) from the rear axle beam (5).
Caution: When removing the axle shaft, do not rotate the axle shaft. Rotating the axle shaft will cause the differential gears to become misaligned, making subsequent assembly difficult.
Installation
Warning: When installing the axle shaft, be careful not to damage the seal.
1. Install the axle shaft into the axle beam.
2. Align the splines of the axle shaft and side gear. Slide the axle shaft into the side gear.
3. On models without a locking differential, install the axle shaft retaining ring.
4. On models with a locking differential, partially slide the pinion shaft out of the differential cup.
5. On models with a locking differential, install the axle shaft retaining ring so that its walls are flush with the thrust block.
6. Pull the axle shaft outward until the retaining ring snaps into place in the side gear.
7. Align the hole in the differential drive gear axle with the hole for the axle fixing bolt.
8. Install the NEW pinion shaft retaining bolt. Tighten the bolt. Tightening torque: 8.6" gearbox 36 N·m; gearbox 9.5" 50 Nm.
9. Install the gearbox housing cover and cover gasket.
10. Install the brake caliper.
11. Install the rear wheel.
12. Fill the gearbox housing with transmission oil.
13. Lower the vehicle.
