Removal
1. Raise the vehicle.
2. Remove the gearbox assembly.
3. Remove the drive gear of the gearbox.
4. Press off the pinion bearing race.

5. Remove the adjusting washer.
6. Knock out the outer ring of the outer and inner bearing of the drive gear from the gearbox housing. The punch is installed alternately into the technological slots.

Installation
1. Using mandrels, install the outer and inner bearing rings of the drive gear into the gearbox housing.
2. Determine the thickness of the drive gear adjusting washer.
3. Install the adjusting washer on the drive gear under the inner bearing race.
4. Press on the inner bearing race.
5. Install the new deformable spacer.
6. Lubricate the bearings with transmission oil.
7. Install the outer bearing race into the crankcase.
8. Using a drift, install the new pinion oil seal.
9. Install the drive gear into the gearbox housing.
10. Lubricate the splines of the drive gear with consistent grease.
11. Install the universal joint fork according to the relative position marks made during removal.
12. Using a soft-faced hammer, seat the fork on the gear shaft until several turns of the gear shaft thread emerge.
13. Install the washer and screw on the new fork mounting nut.
14. Attach the fork lock key to the fork to prevent it from turning.
15. Tighten the fork mounting nut until the pinion shaft axial clearance is almost eliminated. At the same time, rotate the pinion shaft to ensure proper bearing seating.
16. Measure the turning torque of the drive gear shaft.
Turning moment:
- new bearings 1.7-3.4 Nm.
- old bearings 1.0-2.3 Nm.
17. If the turning torque is less than the specified minimum value, continue tightening the nut in small portions.
Caution: If the pinion turning torque is exceeded, the pinion will have to be removed and the deformable spacer will have to be replaced.
18. After the required bearing preload has been achieved, rotate the pinion gear several times to ensure the bearings are seated properly. Check the pinion gear turning torque again.
19. Install the gearbox.
20. Fill the gearbox with transmission oil.
21. Lower the vehicle.
