Necessary equipment
Hinge separator KM-507-V
KM-460-A Wheel Drive Axle Puller
Removal procedure
1. Raise the vehicle and place it on the supports provided for this purpose.
2. Remove the wheels. See Section 2E, Tires and Wheels.
3. Remove the hub nut.

4. Remove the lower hinge nut and cotter pin.
5. Separate the steering knuckle from the lower joint.

6. Remove the outer tie rod nut.
7. Using the KM-507-V joint separator, separate the end of the outer transverse steering rod.

8. Remove the wheel drive axle shaft from the intermediate shaft using the KM-460-A puller.

Important: Support the unsecured end of the wheel drive axle shaft. Do not allow the axle shaft to move freely away from the gearbox after it has been removed from the hub.
Important: Place a container under the gearbox to collect any leaking fluid. After removing the axle shaft, close the opening in the gearbox to prevent foreign particles from getting inside.
9. Remove the bolts securing the intermediate shaft suspension bracket to the cylinder block and remove the shaft from the gearbox with the final drive assembly.

Assembly procedure
Note: Pay special attention to the seals to avoid damaging them.
1. Clean the hub seals and the gearbox assembly.
2. Insert the intermediate shaft into the axle.
Tighten
Tighten the intermediate shaft suspension bracket mounting bolts to the cylinder block to 70 Nm (52 ft·lbs).
3. Insert the axle shaft into the intermediate shaft.
4. Install the hub onto the axle shaft.
5. Mount the steering knuckle onto the lower joint.

6. Insert the outer tie rod into the steering knuckle/strut assembly and install the nut onto it.
Tighten
Tighten the outer tie rod nut to 50 Nm (37 ft·lbs).

7. Install the lower hinge nut and cotter pin.
Tighten
Tighten the lower hinge nut to 10 Nm (81 lbs.in).

8. Tighten the hub nut to 205 Nm (157 ft·lbs).
9. Put on the wheels. Put on the nuts. See Section 2E, Tires and Wheels.
10. Lower the car to the floor.
Tighten
Tighten the wheel nuts to 125 Nm (92 ft·lbs).
11. Add fluid to the gearbox to the required level. See section 5A and 5B, "Automatic/manual transmission with final drive assembly".
