We set the front wheels to the position of straight-line movement of the car.
We press out the pins of the ball joints of the steering rod ends from the eyes of the steering knuckle levers (see Replacing the tie rod end).
Disconnect the intermediate pipe from the catalytic converter of the exhaust system (see Removal the intermediate pipe).
Remove the rear support of the power unit (see Replacing the powertrain mounts).
We unscrew the bolt of the terminal connection of the fork of the lower cardan joint of the intermediate shaft with the tailstock of the steering gear shaft and loosen the bolt of the terminal connection of the fork of the upper cardan joint of the intermediate shaft with the steering shaft (see Removal the intermediate steering shaft).

Using a 10 mm socket, unscrew the bolt securing the drain line tube holder to the front suspension subframe.
Before disconnecting the hydraulic lines from the steering gear housing, place a container under the housing to collect the fluid.

Using an 18 mm spanner, unscrew the nipple of the pressure line tube and the nipple of the drain line tube.

We remove the ends of the tubes of both lines from the holes in the steering gear housing and insert plugs of a suitable diameter into the holes in the tubes and housing.

The ends of the tubes are sealed in the crankcase with rubber rings.

Using a 14 mm open-end wrench or socket, unscrew the nut and bolt of the bracket securing the steering gear housing pipe to the subframe.

We remove the bracket for fastening the steering gear housing pipe.

Using a 14 mm open-end wrench or socket, unscrew the nut and bolt securing the mechanism housing to the subframe.
Place an adjustable stop under the front suspension subframe and unscrew the front subframe mounting nuts and rear subframe mounting bolts (see Removal the subframe).
We lower the subframe on the stop to a height of 60–70 mm so that the front subframe mounting studs do not come out completely from the holes in the subframe (this will allow for more precise alignment of the subframe during its subsequent installation).

When lowering the subframe, we remove the pinion shaft tail from the intermediate shaft fork eye.

We take out the steering mechanism together with the steering rods.
We install the steering mechanism in the reverse order.
Before installing the steering mechanism, set the rack to its middle position (rectilinear movement of a car). Tighten the bolts and nuts securing the pipe and steering gear housing to the subframe to the prescribed torques (see_Appendices).
Before connecting the drain and pressure lines to the steering gear housing, check the condition of the rubber sealing rings. If they are damaged, (breaks, cracks, dents) we replace the rings with new ones. We tighten the tube fittings to the prescribed torques (see Appendices).
Fill the power steering reservoir with working fluid and remove air from the system (see Bleeding the power steering system).
