If steam comes from the engine
Warning: Steam from an overheated engine can seriously burn you, even if you just open the hood. Wait until the steam stops. Stop the engine if it is overheated and leave the car.
If steam does not come out of the engine
If you receive a warning from your appliances but do not see or hear steam, the problem may not be serious. This can happen if you:
- It was a long climb up the hill on a hot day
- Stopped after driving fast
- Idling for a long time in "traffic jams"
- Towed a trailer
Try the following:
- 1. Turn off the air conditioner
- 2. Turn on the heater at full power with the fan on the highest speed, open the windows if necessary
- 3. If you are in a traffic jam, move the gear shift lever to NEVTRAL (N), and if you are moving, move it to OVERDRIVE (D).
If there is no more overheating warning, you can continue driving, slow down for the first ten minutes. If there is still no warning, you can drive normally.
If the overheat warning continues, stop the engine.
If there is still no sign of steam, press the gas pedal so that the engine speed becomes twice as high as at idle. After two to three minutes, release the gas pedal. If the light still lights up, turn off the engine, get out of the car until it cools down.
