1. Raise the vehicle.
2. Inspect the cardan shafts. If there are dents, cracks or deformations, replace the shaft.
3. If traces of leakage are detected near the transmission, transfer case or gearbox, replace the seals.
4. Check the noise coming from the joints by rotating the wheel. Check the play of the joints by trying to rotate the flange and shaft (or cardan shaft sections) in different directions. Any noticeable play indicates severe wear of the hinges.
5. Check the tightness of the hinge mounting bolts.
6. Check for grease leaks from under the sliding joints.
7. Check the tightness of all threaded connections.
