Rear Suspension Leaf Spring (2500 Models) (Chevrolet Tahoe 2)

Removal



1. Raise the vehicle and place safety stands under the frame.

2. Place a temporary support (jack) under the bridge beam.

3. If the suspension is electronically controlled, disconnect the height sensor connector.

4. If a trailer towing device is installed, remove the towing device.

5. When removing the left spring, remove the fuel tank.

6. Unscrew the spring mounting U-bolt nuts. Discard the nuts.

6. Unscrew the spring mounting U-bolt nuts. Discard the nuts.


7. Remove the stepladders.

8. Remove the spring spacer.

9. Remove the anchor plate.

10. Unscrew the bolt and nut securing the rear spring eye to the shackle.

10. Unscrew the bolt and nut securing the rear spring eye to the shackle.


11. Unscrew the bolt and nut securing the front spring eye to the frame bracket.

11. Unscrew the bolt and nut securing the front spring eye to the frame bracket.


12. Remove the spring from the vehicle.



Installation



1. Install the spring on the vehicle.

2. Insert the spring ears into the frame bracket and shackle.

3. Install the spring mounting bolts to the shackle and bracket, tighten the nuts by hand.

4. Install the spring spacer.

5. Install stepladders.

6. Install the anchor plate.

7. Screw on the NEW U-bolt nuts. Tighten the nuts. Tightening torque is 72 N·m.

8. Tighten the front spring eye nut. Tightening torque 150 Nm.

9. Tighten the rear spring eye nut. Tightening torque 95 N·m.

10. If the left spring was removed, install the fuel tank.

11. If removed, install the trailer towing device.

12. If the suspension is electronically controlled, connect the body height sensor connector.

13. Remove the bridge beam support and safety posts.

14. Lower the vehicle.
