Checking brake pads (Chevrolet Orlando 1)

            0

We check the condition of the brake pads in accordance with the maintenance plan or determine the need for such work during the diagnostics of vehicle faults.

Recommendation. When checking the brake pads, check the thickness and condition of the brake discs. If it is less than the permissible value, replace the discs on both sides of the car along with a new set of pads.

You may need a caliper to complete the job. We check the condition of the brake pads in the following order:

1. We prepare the car for maintenance and repair.

2. Remove the front wheel.

3. Using the inspection hole in the caliper, determine the thickness of the brake shoe friction lining, which should not be less than 2 mm. If necessary, measure the lining thickness with a caliper.

3. Using the inspection hole in the caliper, determine the thickness of the brake shoe friction…

If the thickness of the friction lining is less than 2 mm, we change all four brake pads of the front brake mechanisms.

4. We check the mobility of the brake cylinder piston, for which we use a slotted screwdriver, resting it against the brake disc, and move the brake caliper, simultaneously pressing the piston into the cylinder.

4. We check the mobility of the brake cylinder piston, for which we use a slotted screwdriver,…

Recommendation. If the piston "sticks", repair or replace the front brake caliper.

5. Install the front wheel.

6. Similarly, we check the brake pads of the front brake mechanism on the other side of the car.

7. Remove the rear wheels and check the friction linings of the rear brake pads.

7. Remove the rear wheels and check the friction linings of the rear brake pads.

If the thickness of the linings of at least one pad is less than 2 mm, then we replace all four brake pads of the rear brake mechanisms.

Warning! Do not check the caliper piston mobility (as on the front brake mechanism). This will inevitably lead to damage to the caliper.

8. After completing the check, install the wheels and press the brake pedal several times to automatically adjust the gaps between the brake pads and discs.
