The manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor detects changes in intake manifold pressure resulting from changes in engine load and changes in vehicle speed.
The MAP sensor also measures barometric pressure. This condition is achieved in part by calculations of the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor. With the ignition on and the engine off, the ECM considers the manifold pressure to be equal to atmospheric pressure and adjusts the Air/Fuel Ratio accordingly.
This altitude compensation helps maintain vehicle performance and keep emissions low. The barometric pressure sensing function is performed periodically under stable driving conditions or at wide-open throttle. If the MAP sensor barometric system fails, the ECM will default to the barometric pressure value. If the MAP sensor circuit fails, a P0107 or P0108 fault code will be set.
Removal
1. Disconnect the "-" battery cable.
2. Remove the vacuum hose from the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor.
3. Remove the MAP connector.
Installation
1. Insert the MAP sensor into the mounting bracket.
2. Secure the sensor by tightening the sensor mounting bolts and nuts to a torque of 8 Nm.
3. Install the MAP sensor with the mounting bracket and tighten the MAP sensor mounting bracket bolt to 4 Nm.
4. Connect the MAP sensor connector.
5. Connect the vacuum hose to the MAP sensor.
6. Connect the "-" wire of the battery.
