The knock sensor detects abnormal engine knocking. The sensor is mounted on the engine block near the cylinders. The sensor produces an AC output voltage that increases as knocking increases. This signal is sent to the engine control module (ECM). The ECM adjusts the ignition timing to reduce knocking.
Removal
1. Disconnect the "-" battery cable.
2. Remove the intake manifold.
3. Disconnect the connector from the knock sensor.
4. Remove the knock sensor.

Installation
1. Install the knock sensor and tighten the mounting screw to 20 Nm.
2. Connect the connector to the knock sensor.
3. Install the intake manifold.
4. Connect the "-" wire of the battery.
