Leading elements
The leading elements are two flat ground surfaces. One of them is the rear surface of the engine flywheel, and the other is the pressure plate. The pressure plate is installed in a steel housing (basket), which is bolted to the flywheel.
Slave elements
The driven element is a clutch disc with a splined sleeve that slides freely along the splines of the input shaft and causes it to rotate. The driven and leading elements are held in contact by the force of a spring. This force is created in the pressure plate assembly.
Elements of the shutdown drive
The clutch release system consists of a clutch pedal, clutch shaft, fork, and release bearing. When pressure is applied to the clutch pedal, the fork-shaped linkage on its shaft and inner end pushes the release bearing. The bearing then pushes the release arms in the pressure plate assembly, thereby disengaging the clutch.
