Caution! When working near the steering column, turn off the airbag (see Chapter 12).
1. Disconnect both cables from the battery.
2. On pre-1994 models, pry and remove the horn cover.
3. On models equipped with an airbag, disable the airbag system.
4. On 1995 models, rotate the steering wheel 90° to access the holes from the back of the steering wheel facing the dashboard. Insert a thin, rigid tool (ballpoint pen or scriber) into the hole for each of the four spring-loaded fasteners (latches) (see photo). Press down on the tool while using your other hand to move the airbag module.

5. On 1996 and later models, turn the steering wheel 90° to access the holes on the back of the steering wheel facing the dashboard. Insert a screwdriver into the hole for each of the four spring latches (see photo) and press the spring to release each of the four pins.

6. On models with an airbag, disconnect the yellow connector from the module and set the module aside in a safe place.
7. Loosen the steering wheel mounting nut. If the steering wheel position marks are missing or not aligned, mark the position of the steering wheel on the shaft, (see photo).

8. Press the steering wheel off the shaft using a puller (see photo). It is not allowed to remove the steering wheel by impact.

9. When installing the steering wheel, align the marks on the wheel hub with the mark on the shaft and put the wheel on the shaft. Tighten the nut and tighten to the specified torque.
10. Further assembly is carried out in reverse order.
