Fully unloaded axle shaft — removal and installation (Chevrolet Tahoe 1)

1. Unscrew the bolts securing the axle shaft flange to the hub; you don't need to remove the wheel (photo).

2. Loosen the axle shaft by lightly tapping the flange with a soft hammer. Grasp the flange rib with pliers, turn the axle shaft in both directions and remove the axle shaft.

3 Installation is performed in the reverse order. Align the axle shaft so that the axle shaft splines engage the splined hole in the differential gear. Clean the flange split surface and install a new gasket.
