Warning: Do not tow your vehicle for long periods of time using a towing rope. Use the towing hooks only to remove a stuck vehicle. Otherwise, your vehicle's transmission may be damaged.


Chevrolet Tahoe, Avalanche



Towing your car is possible using a rigid hitch (with the rear axle disengaged), by partial loading method with front wheels mounted on a towing dolly (if the vehicle is not equipped with the StabiliTrak system), or by the full loading method.

1. Towing using the rigid "coupling" method.
  • a) Set the selector to position "P".
  • b) Turn off the engine, but leave the key in the ignition.
  • c) Apply the parking brake.
  • d) Perform the "coupling" of the vehicles, making sure that the connections are secure.
  • d) Shift the transfer case into "NEUTRAL" mode (see "Features of the 4WD model transmission" section).
  • e) Release the parking brake.
  • g) Turn off the ignition.

2. Towing by partial loading with the front wheels mounted on the towing dolly.



Please note: If your vehicle is equipped with the StabiliTrak system, you cannot tow it using this method.

  • a) Place the front wheels on the towing dolly.
  • b) Set the selector to position "P".
  • c) Turn off the engine, but leave the key in the ignition.
  • d) Apply the parking brake.
  • d) Secure the towed vehicle to the trolley.
  • e) Shift the transfer case into "NEUTRAL" mode (see "Transmission Features of 4WD Models" section).
  • g) Release the parking brake.
