Egnition lock
There are four fixed positions of the ignition switch:
- LOCK: In this position, you can insert or remove the key from the ignition switch. When the key is removed, the steering wheel is locked.
Note: The vehicle is equipped with the RAP system, thanks to which all electrical appliances in the vehicle will continue to work for ten minutes after the ignition switch is turned to the "LOCK" and then turn off automatically.
- ACC: In this position, you can use the following electrical devices: radio and control the exterior mirrors.
- ON: The engine is running in this position. When the engine is started, the indicators of various systems on the instrument cluster light up.
- START: This position starts the engine.
Engine starting
Attention: do not allow the engine to run for a long time at high speeds and sudden accelerations in a cold state.
1. Apply the parking brake.
2. Turn off unnecessary lights and accessories.
3. Set the selector to position "R". The engine can be started when the automatic transmission selector is in position "N", but for safety reasons it is recommended to start the engine with the selector in the position "R".
4. Press the brake pedal and hold it until you start moving.
5. Start the engine.
Without depressing the accelerator pedal, turn the ignition key to position "START" and start the engine. Release the ignition key when the engine starts.
Attention: do not turn the engine crankshaft more than "5 seconds at a time. This can cause the starter motor and electrical circuit connections to overheat. If the engine does not start within "5 seconds, then take a break of about one minute before the next attempt.
Coolant heater
On some models, an engine coolant heater is installed, the use of which at low temperatures (below -18°С) makes it easier to start the engine and significantly reduces fuel consumption when the engine warms up.
Attention: do not use the coolant heater at an outside air temperature of more than -18°C.
1. To turn on the heater, do the following:
- A) Turn the ignition key to the position "LOCK".
- b) Open the hood and unroll the coolant heater cord. The cord is located on the driver's side next to the power steering fluid reservoir.
- V) Connect the plug of the cord to "grounded" 110 V socket.
2. After warming up the engine coolant, turn off the heater and put the heater cord in its original place.
If the engine does not start
1. Before performing checks, make sure there is enough fuel in the tank.
2. If the engine crankshaft does not turn or turns too slowly:
- A) Check that the battery terminals are securely tightened and clean.
- b) If the battery terminals are OK, then turn on the interior lighting. If the lighting is absent, dim, or goes out when the engine is cranked over by the starter, the battery is discharged. Start with a booster battery.
- V) If the lighting is normal, but the engine does not start, then the engine is faulty.
3. If the engine cranks normally but the engine does not start, check:
- A) Check the tightness of the connectors (e.g. spark plug connections, ignition coils).
- b) If the connectors are OK, then the spark plugs may be "flooded" due to repeated cranking of the engine crankshaft.
4. (Models with immobilizer system) Start the engine using other (additional and main) keys. If the engine starts, then your key is faulty and needs to be replaced. If the engine does not start when using other keys, the immobilizer system may be faulty.
Engine starting (if spark plugs "flooded")
1. While depressing the accelerator pedal, turn the engine crankshaft by moving the ignition key to position "START" within approximately 15 seconds. Don't rock the pedal, just keep it pressed down.
2. Release the ignition key and the accelerator pedal. Then try to start the engine without depressing the accelerator pedal.
3. If the engine does not start within 15 seconds of cranking, then release the ignition key and wait a few minutes.
4. Try to start the engine. If the engine does not start, then:
- A) Remove spark plugs and dry wet electrodes.
- b) Turn the ignition key to position "START" for approximately 15 seconds while keeping the accelerator pedal depressed.
- V) Install spark plugs.
5. Try to start the engine without depressing the accelerator pedal. If the engine still does not start, it is faulty and needs to be adjusted or repaired.
Caution: Do not crank the engine for more than 15 seconds at a time. This can cause the starter motor and electrical circuit connections to overheat.
Starting with a booster battery
Attention: the booster battery voltage must be 12V. Do not start with the booster battery unless you are sure its parameters are correct.
1. Turn off the ignition, turn off all unnecessary lights and accessories, and make sure that the cars are not touching.
2. Open the hoods of both vehicles and locate the positive and negative battery terminals. There are two outlets on your vehicle ("+" and battery terminals designed specifically for starting the engine with an additional battery.
- A) The positive terminal of the battery is located near the accessory drive bracket. On some models, this output is covered with a red cap.
- b) The negative terminal extension is located on the accessory drive bracket and is labeled "GND".
3. Connect the starter harness in the following order:
- A) Connect the wire clamp to the positive terminal of the discharged battery (or to an additional conclusion "+" automatic transmission terminals (if there)), and then to the positive terminal of the booster battery.
- b) Connect the wire clamp to the negative terminal of the booster battery, then to ground (to a rigid, immobile, unpainted metal part of a car engine with a dead battery).
Attention:
- Do not connect the cable near any part that can move when the engine is cranked.
- Do not accidentally touch cables or clamps to anything other than the appropriate battery terminals or ground, as this may cause a fire.
- When connecting cables, make sure they are connected securely.
4. Start the engine of the vehicle that starts the vehicle with the dead battery and let it run for a few minutes.
5. Start the car engine with the discharged battery in the usual way.
Note: If the engine does not start after several attempts, the vehicle needs to be repaired.
6. Carefully disconnect the cables, negative first, then positive.
Attention: be especially careful when performing this paragraph. Do not touch the moving parts of the engine with your hands and keep an eye on the floors of clothing to avoid getting them on the rotating parts (e.g. drive belts).
