Automatic transmission replacement (Chevrolet Tahoe 2)

            0

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Drain the working fluid (type DEXRON III®), see. "Filter, removal and installation".

3. Disconnect the rear propeller shaft.

4. Place a jack under the automatic transmission.

5. Unscrew the nuts (or nut) securing the automatic transmission support to the crossmember. Tightening torque 50 Nm.

6. Unscrew the bolts/nuts securing the automatic transmission support crossmember.

6. Unscrew the bolts/nuts securing the automatic transmission support crossmember.


Tightening torque 95 Nm.

7. Raise the automatic transmission and remove the support crossmember.

8. Remove the intake manifold.

9. Remove the starter.

10. Remove the transfer case.

11. Loosen the automatic transmission support mounting bolts and remove the support.

11. Loosen the automatic transmission support mounting bolts and remove the support.


Tightening torque 25 Nm.

12. Make sure the manual control shaft is in the park position.



13. Remove the automatic transmission control cable fastening clamp from the bracket.

14. Remove the end (2) of the control cable from the cable ball joint (1) on the automatic transmission lever.

15. Squeeze the cable clamps and remove the cable from the bracket.

16. Unscrew the bolts securing the exhaust pipe suspension loop bracket and remove the bracket.

16. Unscrew the bolts securing the exhaust pipe suspension loop bracket and remove the bracket.


Tightening torque 17 Nm.



17. Disconnect the wire harness support clip (1) from the fuel pipe bracket.

18. Disconnect the start inhibit switch wiring connector (2).

19. Disconnect the connector (1) of the main wire harness.

19. Disconnect the connector (1) of the main wire harness.


20. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) connector (2).

21. Loosen the fuel pipe support bracket mounting bolt (on the left side of the automatic transmission).

Tightening torque 10 Nm.



22. Loosen the torque converter mounting bolts.

Tightening torque 63 Nm.

Note: Apply a locking adhesive such as Loctite 242 to the bolt threads before installation.


23. Disconnect the transmission fluid cooler pipes from the automatic transmission.

24. Plug the cooler tube connection fittings.

25. Loosen the nut of the fuel pipe support bracket and the fuel vapor recovery system pipe. Tightening torque 20 N·m.

26. Unscrew the lower bolt and the lower bolt-stud securing the automatic transmission to the engine. Tightening torque 50 N·m.

27. Unscrew the remaining automatic transmission mounting bolts.

27. Unscrew the remaining automatic transmission mounting bolts.


Tightening torque 50 Nm.

28. Install the torque converter locking device on the automatic transmission.

29. Pull the automatic transmission backwards straight along the axis of the automatic transmission shaft.

30. Remove the automatic transmission from the vehicle, along with the fluid level dipstick tube.

31. If necessary, flush the working fluid cooler and supply pipes.

32. Installation in reverse order.
