The special feature of the D16 gearbox is the use of triple locking rings in the synchronizer mechanism of the 1st and 2nd gears. The other synchronizers are equipped with ordinary single locking rings.
Reverse gear is engaged by means of a sliding intermediate gear, which, when engaged, meshes with the gears of the driving and driven shafts. The driven gear of the reverse gear is the toothed ring on the 1st and 2nd gear engagement clutch.
