Steering gear — removal and installation (Chevrolet Tahoe 2)

Removal

1. Place a container for the fluid under the steering gear of the vehicle.

2. If the engine protection is installed, remove the protection.

3. Disconnect the pressure and return hoses from the steering gear. Tightening torque 28 N·m.

Note: Do not start the engine with the hoses disconnected from the steering gear.

4. Plug open hose and steering gear openings to prevent dirt from entering the system.

5. Disconnect the intermediate steering shaft from the steering gear.

6. Loosen the nut (1) securing the steering knuckle to the steering rod. Tightening torque 68 N·m.



7. Using a puller, disconnect the steering arm from the steering rod.



8. Loosen the steering gear mounting bolts to the frame. Tightening torque 150 Nm.



9. Remove the steering gear from the vehicle.

10. Loosen the nut securing the steering knuckle to the steering gear shaft. Tightening torque 250 Nm.



11. Using a suitable puller, remove the bipod.

Installation

12. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. After installation, bleed the power steering system.
