Over time, resinous deposits from crankcase gases accumulate in the engine crankcase ventilation system, making it difficult for these gases to be removed into the engine cylinders for combustion. Because of this, the gas pressure inside the engine increases and oil leaks through the seals appear. To prevent this, periodically clean and flush the system.

1. Loosen the clamp securing the air supply hose to the throttle body pipe and remove the hose from the pipe.

2. Slide the spring retainer of the engine crankcase ventilation hose tip...

3. ...and disconnect the hose from the throttle body fitting.

4. Similarly, disconnect the second hose tip from the cylinder head cover fitting and remove the hose.

5. Remove the cylinder head cover (see "Replacing the cylinder head cover gasket").

6. Wash the oil deflectors, the inner surface of the cylinder head cover and its pipe with gasoline or kerosene...

7. ...and also the system hose.
8. Install the cylinder head cover and crankcase ventilation hose in the reverse order of removal.
