The clutch pedal is removed for replacement if there is a squeak, sticking or increased play, as well as if the return spring is damaged. The clutch pedal is mounted on a common bracket with the brake pedal, so to repair or replace the clutch pedal, it is necessary to remove the pedal assembly.

1. Under the instrument panel, unscrew the two nuts securing the clutch release master cylinder to the front shield.

2. Disconnect the clutch master cylinder push rod from the clutch pedal by squeezing the push rod retainer tabs...
NOTE: Shown with pedal assembly removed for clarity.

3. ...and remove the master cylinder from the hole in the front shield of the body without disconnecting the pipes from it.

4. Remove the brake booster (see "Replacing the brake booster").

5. In the engine compartment, unscrew the four nuts securing the pedal assembly to the front shield.

6. Press the wiring harness connector lock and disconnect the connector from the clutch pedal position sensor.

7. Grab the wire harness holder...

8. ... remove the holder from the hole in the pedal assembly bracket and move the harness to the side.

9. Remove the left air duct, overcoming the resistance of its clips.

10. Press the harness connector lock and disconnect the connector from the combination brake light switch and brake pedal position sensor.

11. Use a screwdriver to pry up the lock on the throttle pedal wiring harness connector...

12. ...and pull out the lock.

13. Press the shoe lock...

14. ...and disconnect it from the pedal.

15. Remove two bolts securing the pedal assembly bracket to the instrument panel amplifier on the right...

16. ...and on the left...
NOTE: One of the left mounting bolts is not visible in the photo because it is covered by the instrument panel reinforcement.

17. ...then remove the pedal assembly.

18. If it is necessary to replace the clutch pedal, squeeze the locking tabs of the pedal axle, remove the axle from the holes in the pedal and bracket, and remove the pedal assembly with the return mechanism.

19. If necessary, unscrew the clutch pedal position sensor mounting bolt and remove the sensor.
20. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal. Before installing the pedal into the bracket, lubricate its axle with consistent grease.
