NOTE: Brake line nuts are usually very tight. When you try to unscrew them with an ordinary wrench, the edges of the nuts are crushed, so we recommend using special wrenches for brake pipes.
The vacuum brake booster is a complex structure that is difficult to disassemble. It requires qualified personnel and special equipment for its adjustment and repair. In addition, the amplifier is a device that directly affects traffic safety, its low-quality repair can lead to serious consequences, therefore, in case of a malfunction, replace the entire amplifier. Ways to check the performance of the vacuum brake booster are described above (see «Checking the operation of the vacuum brake booster»).
1. Disconnect the wire from the terminal «minus» battery.
2. Remove the brake master cylinder (see «Replacing the master brake cylinder»).
3. Turn out two bolts of fastening of the vacuum amplifier.
NOTE: If you remove the amplifier not for replacement, the bolts of its fastening can not be removed from the holes in the amplifier case.
4. Remove the two-way valve from the hole in the sealing sleeve of the vacuum brake booster, take it aside without disconnecting the hose to the vacuum pump and the wiring harness block...
5.... and remove the amplifier into the engine compartment.
NOTE: The tip of the vacuum brake booster rod is inserted into a special stop on the brake pedal and is not fixed in it in any way.
6. In case of replacement of the vacuum booster, remove the sealing gasket and install it on the new booster.
NOTE: Replace a heavily compressed or torn gasket.
7. Remove the rubber sealing bushing of the two-way valve from the hole in the amplifier housing and inspect it.
NOTE: Replace a badly crimped, hardened, or cracked bushing, as poor condition will result in amplifier failure.
8. Install the brake booster and all removed parts in the reverse order of removal.
9. Fill in the brake fluid and bleed the system (see «Bleeding the hydraulic drive of the brake system»).
NOTE: Be sure to replace the rubber sealing ring of the brake master cylinder flange with a new one.
