The brake pedal is removed for replacement if it squeaks, sticks, or has increased play, or if the return spring is damaged. The brake pedal, together with the clutch pedal, is part of the pedal assembly. To replace or repair it, the pedal assembly must be removed, as described in detail in Section. "Transmission" (cm. "Removal and installation the clutch pedal").

NOTE: Pedal assembly for vehicles equipped with automatic transmission (without clutch pedal), removed using the same techniques as shown in section. "Transmission". The pedal assembly with only the brake pedal has two additional technological installation pins, which are used only during preliminary assembly of the instrument panel assembly with the pedal assembly and are not used for other purposes in the vehicle design. In order to remove such a pedal assembly without disassembling the instrument panel, it is necessary to saw off one of these pins with a hacksaw blade. The absence of this pin does not affect the functionality of the assembly.

This is what a technological pin looks like (for clarity, the sawing process is shown on a removed pedal assembly).
1. Remove the pedal assembly (see "Removal and installation the clutch pedal").

2. Rotate the brake pedal shaft in any direction by 90°...

3. ...and remove it from the holes in the pedal assembly bracket and pedal.

4. Remove the brake pedal...

5. ...and remove two plastic bushings from its eye. Replace any bushings that are badly worn or damaged.
6. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal, lubricating the pedal bushings and its axis with consistent grease.
