Engine — removal and installation (Chevrolet Tahoe 1)

            0

1. Remove the hood.

2. Disconnect the battery from ground.

3. Drain the fluid from the cooling system.

4. Remove the air filter.

5. Remove the drive belts.

6. Remove the radiator, shroud, fan and coolant pump pulley.

7. Disconnect the radiator and heater hoses from the engine.

8. Disconnect the throttle cable and kick-down rod from the throttle body (if provided).

9. Remove the air conditioning compressor (if provided), without disconnecting the lines. Move the unit to the side and secure it.

10. Remove the power steering pump (on cars with power steering), without disconnecting the hoses. Move the pump to the side and secure it.

11. Remove the generator.

12. Mark and disconnect all wires from the engine (see photo).

13. Disconnect and plug the fuel hoses and pipes from the engine.

14. Mark and disconnect all vacuum lines from the intake manifold (see photo).

15. Raise the vehicle and place it on stands.



16. Drain the oil from the engine.

17. Disconnect the exhaust pipes from the exhaust manifolds.

18. On all-wheel drive models with automatic transmission, disconnect the suspension struts from the engine mounts.

19. Remove the flywheel access hatch (or to the torque converter).

20. Remove the wiring harness from the brackets on the oil pan.

21. Remove the starter.

22. On vehicles with automatic transmission, unscrew the bolts securing the drive disk to the torque converter.

23. Raise the transmission with a floor jack.

24. Attach a hoist to the engine and lift the engine to relieve the load on the supports (see photo).

25.0 Loosen the bolts securing the bell housing to the engine.

26. Loosen the bolts securing the engine to the frame.

27. Raise the engine and make sure there are no obstructions preventing the engine from exiting the engine compartment. Raise the engine and remove it from the vehicle.

28. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
