Cylinder head — disassembly (Chevrolet Tahoe 1)

            0

Attention! 1. It seems more expedient to purchase a new cylinder head than to disassemble, check and repair a previously used head.

2. Two types of cylinder heads are installed on 7.4 L engines: "open chamber" and "closed chamber". The piston crowns corresponding to these heads are different. When replacing a cylinder head, make sure that the new heads correspond in design to the ones being replaced.

1. To disassemble the cylinder head, it is necessary to remove the manifolds, valves, shafts with rocker arms and related parts.

2. Removed parts should be marked and stored in the order they were installed (see photo).

3. Compress the first valve spring using a suitable tool and remove the crackers (see photo). Carefully release the valve spring, remove the spring plate, oil deflector, valve rotator (if provided), spring and a pack of support washers. Remove the oil seal and take the valve out of the head. If the valve does not come out of the bushing, then remove the flange around the groove for the cracker with a file or a sharpening stone (see photo).

4. Repeat the same steps for the remaining valves.
