2. Wipe the back surface of the new upper connecting rod bearing and place it in the connecting rod. Make sure that the protrusion on the bearing fits into the groove in the connecting rod and that the lubrication holes match. Install the lower bearing into the connecting rod cap in the same way (see photo). Do not lubricate the liners. Do not touch the working surface of the liners with your fingers.

3. Arrange the piston ring joints according to the diagram (see photo).

5. Gap in the lower disc of the oil scraper ring.
4. Lubricate the pistons and rings with clean engine oil, compress the rings with a tool, leaving a protruding section of the piston (approximately 6 mm).
5. Adjust the crankshaft so that the connecting rod journal on the 1st cylinder is at BDC. Lubricate the cylinder with engine oil.
6. Orient the piston so that the recess on the piston bottom faces the front of the engine. Carefully insert the lower part of the piston with the connecting rod into the first cylinder until the device stops against the cylinder block. Lightly tap the upper edge of the mandrel for uniform contact with the plane of the cylinder block. Insert the piston into the cylinder without applying much force (see photo).

7. Pull the connecting rod to the crankshaft journal and check the clearance in the connecting rod bearing (see photo). The inspection procedure is no different from the procedure for main bearings (see above). Rotation of the crankshaft or the slightest contact of oil with the liners during measurements are not allowed. Tighten the connecting rod cap nuts to the specified torque using a thin-walled socket head. If the clearance is not within the norm, make sure there is no grease or dirt, and recheck the journal diameter and the correct selection of the liners.

8. After measuring the clearance in the connecting rod bearing, carefully remove the remains of the gauge, lubricate the liners and crankshaft journal, install the connecting rod cover and evenly tighten the cover mounting nuts to the specified torque.
9. Repeat these procedures for the remaining connecting rods.
10. After final installation of the pistons with connecting rods, check the freedom of rotation of the crankshaft.
11. Check the connecting rod axial play (see above). Keep in mind that after installing new parts, the connecting rod play may be less than normal and it may be necessary to grind the connecting rods in a car service.
12. Assemble and install the engine, following the relevant sections of the manual.
