2. Wipe the back surface of the new upper connecting rod bearing and lay it in place in the connecting rod. Make sure the tab on the bushing fits into the groove in the connecting rod and the oil holes line up. Install the bottom bearing in the same manner (see photo). Do not lubricate inserts. Do not touch the working surface of the earbuds with your fingers.
3. Arrange the joints of the piston rings in accordance with the diagram (see photo).
5. Clearance in the lower disk of the oil scraper ring.
4. Lubricate the pistons and rings with clean engine oil, compress the rings with a tool, leaving a protruding section of the piston (approx. 6 mm).
5. Set the crankshaft so that the connecting rod journal on the 1st cylinder is at BDC. Lubricate the cylinder with engine oil.
6. Orient the piston so that the notch in the piston crown faces the front of the engine. Carefully insert the lower part of the piston with the connecting rod into the first cylinder until the tool rests on the cylinder block. Lightly tap the top edge of the mandrel to evenly contact the plane of the cylinder block. Insert the piston into the cylinder without much effort (see photo).
7. Pull the connecting rod to the crankshaft journal and check the clearance in the connecting rod bearing (see photo). The inspection procedure is no different from the procedure for main bearings (see above). Rotation of the crankshaft or the slightest ingress of oil on the liners during measurements is not allowed. Torque tighten the connecting rod cap nuts with a thin wall socket. If the gap is out of specification, check that there is no grease or dirt, and again check the neck diameter and correct insert selection.
8. After measuring the clearance in the connecting rod bearing, carefully remove the remnants of the gauge, lubricate the liners and the crankshaft journal, install the connecting rod cover and evenly tighten the cover fastening nuts with a specified torque.
9. Repeat these procedures for the rest of the connecting rods.
10. After the final installation of pistons with connecting rods, check the freedom of rotation of the crankshaft.
11. Check the end play of the connecting rod (see above). Keep in mind that after installing new parts, the connecting rod play may be less than normal and it may be necessary to grind the connecting rods in a car service.
12. Assemble and install the engine following the relevant sections of the manual.
