2. Check the condition of the crankshaft journals, the presence of cracks, dents, and burrs. If a copper coin leaves a mark on the crankshaft journal, the journals should be re-ground. It is recommended to check the crankshaft at a car service using magnetoscopy.

3. If a deep groove from the working edge of the seal has formed on the journals under the seals, the crankshaft should be taken to a car service. Sometimes the defect can be eliminated by pressing on a thin bushing. If repair is impossible, the crankshaft should be replaced.

4. Measure the diameter of the necks in several places around the circumference and along the length and determine the taper and ovality (see photo).

5. In case of noticeable damage, or if the ovality and taper are not within the norm, the crankshaft should be reground in a car service center and the liners should be replaced with repair ones.
