Attention! The procedure for replacing the oil seal is the same for both manual and automatic transmissions.
1. The cause of oil leakage is usually wear of the seal and bushing in the tailpiece of the gearbox housing, as well as the seal of the speedometer drive gear and the sealing ring (see photo).

2. The crankcase tailpiece seal is located at the end of the gearbox, next to the propeller shaft. Raise the vehicle and place it on stands.
3 Remove the axle shaft.
All manual transmissions except 4-speed with cast iron housing (RPO M20) and all automatic transmissions
4. Using light blows, displace the dust cover on the gearbox housing tailpiece and remove it. On a 5-speed cast iron gearbox, unscrew the nuts, remove the bolts and disconnect the universal joint flange from the gearbox.
5. Use a screwdriver to pry up and carefully remove the seal and bushing (provided for some vehicles) (see photo).

6. If the seal and bushing cannot be removed, a special tool should be used to remove the seal.
7. Using a mandrel, press a new oil seal onto the gearbox shaft (see photo). Install a new bushing.

8. Further assembly is carried out in reverse order.

9. Release the parking brake.
10. Disconnect the wire connector from the bearing housing.
11. Loosen the universal joint flange nuts and disconnect the joint flange.
12. Disconnect the gearbox support and lift the gearbox with a jack.
13.0 Loosen the bolts and remove the bearing housing.
14. Remove the bearing housing gasket.
15. Pry up and remove the seal.
16. Lubricate the outside of the new seal with locking compound.
17. Press the new seal into the bearing housing using light hammer blows through a wooden block.
18. Further assembly is carried out in reverse order.
All checkpoints
19. Lubricate the splines of the secondary shaft of the gearbox and the outer part of the splined part of the cardan shaft fork with low-viscosity grease, attach the shaft, avoiding damage to the seal.
