2. Run the engine to idle. Set the front wheels to the straight ahead position.
3. Apply 111 N of force to the pedal. Listen to the noise and evaluate the feel of the pedal.
4. Quickly release the brake pedal. Listen for noises.
5. If the pedal vibrates noticeably during the check, the power steering pump drive belt is probably not tensioned correctly or worn out.
6. If there is a significant noise when the pedal is released, there is probably a constriction (resistance) in the power steering return hose from the hydraulic brake booster.
7. Apply a force of 178 N to the brake pedal and gradually increase the force to 445 N. Listen for noises.
Caution: Do not hold pedal force of 445 N or more for more than five seconds.
8. Quickly release the brake pedal. Listen for noises.
9. If a hissing noise was evident with increasing pedal force, the hydraulic brake booster is sound from an acoustic point of view.
10. If there is a clanging, vibration and/or clicking sound on the pedals, acoustically the hydraulic brake booster is normal.
