2. Start the engine at idle speed. Set the front wheels in the straight-ahead position.
3. Apply a force of 111 N to the pedal. Listen to the noise and evaluate the sensations on the pedal.
4. Quickly release the brake pedal. Listen for noise.
5. If the pedal noticeably vibrates during the check, the power steering pump drive belt is probably incorrectly tensioned or worn.
6. If there is significant noise when releasing the pedal, there is probably a restriction (resistance) in the return hose of the power steering from the hydraulic brake booster.
7. Apply a force of 178 N to the brake pedal and gradually increase the force to 445 N. Listen to the noise.
Caution: Do not maintain a pedal force of 445 N or more for more than five seconds.
8. Quickly release the brake pedal. Listen for noise.
9. If a hissing noise is evident when increasing pedal force, the hydraulic brake booster is acoustically normal.
10. If the pedal pressure is released and a clunking, vibration and/or clicking noise occurs, the hydraulic brake booster is acoustically normal.
